Panel Discussion: Indigenous Health Research and Indigenous Research Ethics

Summary

In this panel segment, chapter nine of TCPS is talked about in length, as it outlines best practices for conducting research for First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people. Research is perceived differently in each community, but it is vital that non-community members understand the cultural and social protocols, and accept the uniqueness of different research areas. There is discussion in the difficulty of community and participant based research at the university level, as there typically is a lack of detail required for funding. Community members are working to find solutions to develop more flexible protocols for the different levels of research.
