Scientific Objectives
- Understand the long-term effects of menopause related insomnia on overall health, quality of life and cognitive function.
- Evaluate factors that place menopausal women at risk for insomnia and how it may also be an early sign of menopause.
- Examine the impact of hormonal fluctuations during menopause on sleep quality as well as the bidirectional relationship between vasomotor symptoms (VMS) and insomnia.
- Gain an approach to assessment of insomnia in menopausal women understanding the role of major comorbid issues (ie depression, sleep apnea).
- Discuss non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment approaches for insomnia in menopausal women, considering both major comorbidities and the role of menopausal hormone therapy (MHT).
By addressing these scientific objectives, the symposia will provide a comprehensive and up to date overview of the interplay between menopause and insomnia, by optimizing strategies for the management of co-morbid menopausal patients suffering from insomnia.
