Takeshi Sano, MD

Dr. Sano is the department director of Gastroenterological Surgery, Cancer Institute Hospital, Tokyo. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tokyo in 1980, and completed his surgical training at the First Department of Surgery, University of Tokyo. He spent 15 months in Paris in 1986 and 1987 as a research fellow of the French Government Scholarship at Institute Curie. He is on the Council of the Japanese Gastric Cancer Association, Chairman of the JGCA Committee of the Treatment Guidelines, Secretary of the International Gastric Cancer Association and Steering Committee member of the Japan Clinical Oncology Group. He is also frequently a visiting professor for universities in Asia, Europe, and South America. Dr. Sano is also an Honourable Member of the of European Surgical Association, German General and Visceral Surgery as well as has
authored over 140 English papers in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Sano has lectured at about 80 cities in 35 different countries.
He is highly experienced in the performance of D2 gastrectomies and has been a faculty at the “D2 Gastrectomy Course” of the Royal College of Surgeons, England and the “Nordic D2 Course” of Karolinska Institute Hospital.
Additionally he has conducted live demonstrations of gastrectomies in the UK, Italy, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Hong Kong, India, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore and Mongolia.
Woo Jin Hyung, MD, PhD

Dr. Hyung specializes in gastrointestinal surgery, particularly in minimally invasive and robotic surgery of the upper gastrointestinal tract. He has completed more than 1000 laparoscopic gastrectomies and 500 robotic gastrectomies for gastric cancer. He is a member of the Korean Surgical Society, the Korean Gastric Cancer Society, as well as the International Gastric Cancer Society. Dr. Hyung Woo Jin is also a Professor of the Department of Surgery at Yonsei University College of Medicine. He has extensive experience with using fluorescence technology to improve the quality of gastrectomies and better patient outcomes as a result.
Roderich Schwarz, MD, FACS

Dr. Schwarz is the medical director of Indiana University’s Health Goshen Center for Cancer Care. He graduated from the Medical School of Hannover, Lower Saxony, Germany. He completed a research fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh’s Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and Department of Pathology. He served as a resident at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, followed by a surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in New York, NY.
Dr. Schwarz specializes in the treatment of pancreatic, liver, bile duct and gastric cancers, including metastatic cancer to the liver. He has significant expertise in coordinating the multidisciplinary care of these challenging tumors, but also in recommending when or when not to perform an operation for masses, cysts or duct blockages. He leads the gastrointestinal cancer team at Goshen Health. In working with the other cancer specialists, all aspects of gastrointestinal cancer (including diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive care) are evaluated and customized to the individual patient’s best possible benefit.
Dr. Schwarz has also authored or co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, as well as numerous textbook chapters and editorials. He has served as scientific reviewer for medical journals and has been an editorial board member for Gastric Cancer, International Journal of Surgical Oncology, Annals of Surgical Oncology and American Journal of Surgery.
